There's discussion in rec.audio about getting good results with these units. To summarize, most people who use the probe (inductive pickup vs. direct connection) found that you generally have to put the probe INSIDE either the TV or the VCR, next to the IF stage (not the tuner). In fact, sometimes it has to go inside the shielded can with the tuner. Seems TV's maybe don't radiate IF stuff as much as they used to... :-) If you can't find the discussion in rec.audio, I could find the article with the most thorough directions, and post or mail it.
