[net.wanted] TV Info/Suggestions

fargo@ihuxx.UUCP (10/26/83)

I am looking at color TVs with remote control, direct audio/video input
(at least one set of inputs), audio output (for stereo) and cable-ready
capability. Service would be a nice feature, too but that depends on
local. I've looked at Sony, JVC, Mitsubishi and Hitachi. Does anyone
on the net have comments on their experiences with these TVs or
suggestions/caveats? Also,
if you know of a good place to buy in the ChicagoLand area, please
pass that info on, too.

I just went through a long process of selecting a TV with the
same criteria as you have. I first selected the Sony 1953RX
(note that it's RX, not RS. The X says that it's audio ready).
Fortunately, no store in the east coast (from Boston to New York
to New Jersey) had the model in store. The price varied between
$510 to $540.

As I was waiting for the Sony to come in, I changed my mind
and looked into component TV. I looked at the 19" Sony and
the 19" Teknica. With only the monitor and the control unit,
the Sony cost around $850, the Teknica around $700.

But after much discussion with friends and much thinking, I
setlled on the Mitsubishi CS-1960R. I still think this was
one of the best decision I've ever made. The resolution of
this TV is 400 lines per inch. It's cable-ready. It has
audio/video input and audio output (not in stereo). It has
comb filter (not many sets have this). It has remote control.
The color is beautiful. And the design is great. And I paid
only $570 for it. Some Mitsubishi dealers will give you
a brochure of Mitsubishi TVs. Get one and study it.

Good luck.
