[sci.electronics] Super-Bright Leds

wordy@cup.portal.com (Steven K Roberts) (01/30/90)

You might also contact HP -- their ArcLamp series hits 3 candela
at 20mA. These are jumbo, and are a pretty clever optical design.
There's a smaller HP series that's the normal LED size, yet meets
the SAE brightness specs for CHIMSLs (center high-mounted stop lights).
I think it's the new Nissan that uses them -- but try HP direct
(the opto division is in San Jose, and the resident wizard on the
subject is Greg Smestead at 408-435-6512... tell him I said hi)
(Oh, now that I have the database open, I notice that they're
ArcLites, not ArcLamps.)
And yes... they're going on the Winnebiko!
   Cheers...

Er, make that 15 candela on the big ones. (I'm useless without the
database in front of me. How did people live before computers?
Silly question to ask *this* group......)

A reference was made to ArcLites developed at HP (Greg Smestead).
Greg asked me to direct further inquires to Hanna Suen at 408 435 6260.
