I would adapt the radio portion of an electronic garage door opener,
if one could not be found else where.

A modern radio with binary security code can be purchased to update
older systems on garage door openers. I got one from Sears and updated
our garage door opener. This could pick up a latching relay in the
same fashion that it does for the motor of the opener, to power the
device in question.

I do not know, but assume that door openers and radio systems are used
in the UK.
