I don't know who it was that needed to communicate with people in MRI imagers, but I would imagine that a system like that in airplanes would be good enough. You know, those earphones that work by pulsing the air instead of pulsing a membrane which would then pulse the air. All you would need is a long tube to carry the air (I guess, as I don't really know). Hope this might help.
