[sci.electronics] Seagate ST4051 troubleshooting?

den@hpfinote.HP.COM (Don Novy) (06/02/90)

Does anyone have detailed internal information on a Seagate ST-4051 40 Mb
hard disk? I have one with a bad controller board that I would like to fix.
The drive doesn't spin up anymore, but I know the disk platters are OK. It is
obviously difficult to fix the drive without a schematic or documentation.

Thanks,

Seagate drives have a reputation for stuck platters. It has to do with the
spindle lube viscosity or something. If you can turn the spindle by hand
this might just do it as a temporary fix. The platter may or may not stick
again later...
