[sci.electronics] Books on telephone electronics

Re: someone was looking for a good intro text on telephony.

Radio Shack makes a good one, as has been previously mentioned. It's
called "Understanding Telephone Electronics," and was written by people at
Texas Instruments.
There are a number of other books in the series, all the same style...like
a textbook, a chapter with a quiz at the end and so on. They're all very good
and all are available at most Radio Shacks. BUT..BUT. SAMS bought out the
whole line. New books are printed with both the TI and SAMS logos on the
bottom of the spine. Radio Shack is dumping the line entirely, according to
a friend that works there. SAMS is taking it over, repackaging the books in
larger paper sizes, adding margin notes, etc...but basically keeping the
actual pages the same. All of the content is the same...and then selling them
for...get this, I've seen it...$24.95 each.

Radio Shack used to sell them for $3.95 each...but will sell the remainder
of the line that they have in stock for...$0.69 each. (!)
Ergo...run to your local RatShack and pick them up. There are about ten books
in the series...what the hell..get them all. They're all well worth the 69c
price! :-)
