[sci.electronics] Electret mikes: How do I combine several?

packer@amarna.gsfc.nasa.gov (Charles Packer) (07/17/90)

I want to combine the outputs of several electret microphones,
the kind Radio Shack uses in their sound level meter and also
sells separately for a couple of dollars. I don't need (or want)
individual gain control. Is there a simple way to connect
them together (such as all in parallel) or do I have to use
a traditional mixing circuit with amplifiers for each element?

I'm not sure, but I think these mikes use the voltage developed across a
drain resistor as the signal. If so, you can just parallel the drain of
the FETs in each mike, reduce the size of the resistor by the number mikes
paralleled, and you're home free. But then, I could be wrong.
