Does anyone have the specs for a Toshiba TA7205P? It is an audio amp chip used on a board that I am removing parts from. -- John Woods, Charles River Data Systems, Framingham MA, (508) 626-1101 ...!decvax!frog!john, john@frog.UUCP, ...!mit-eddie!jfw, jfw@eddie.mit.edu

Basically I was passed from division to division to supplier to division, till finally some Toshiba person recommended I ring Email Electronics, which was where I was ringing from !! I gave up in disgust ! Even the service personnel seemed to have difficulty comprehending what a datasheet was ! I have the "hand traced" circuit I made from the Clarion car deck where the 205P is used, and from that I could work out what most of the pins were. The TA7205P is supposedly 7.5W. It requires external compensation, bootstrap capacitor, output coupling capcaitor (delete in a bridge circuit), output stablisation capacitor, input coupling cap and feedback components. I'm not sure what the capacitor beween the + rail and the pin next to the + rail was for ? (If you ever find out Please let me know). Sorry to inflict this tale of woe on you, hope you fare better ! It requires external compensation, bootstrap I have a 1987 Toshiba 'AUDIO LINEAR IC'S' (3702D) data book which lists a TA7205AP 5.8W amp, and a TA7241AP 2 x 5.8W amp. I'm not sure about the A suffix, but this seems like the same device. I can't find it in later data books. Tandy in the UK will even sell you one, though I don't know about data. >not sure what the capacitor beween the + rail and the pin next to the >+ rail was for ? (If you ever find out Please let me know). The capacitor attached to pin 2 (shown as 68nF on the application circuit from Vcc to pin 2, but recommended between pin 2 and ground) is apparently used to improve PSU ripple rejection. It need not be connected.

This 5.8 watt audio amp has: Operating voltage - 9-18v Output impedance - 2-16 ohms gain - 55 dB total harmonic distortion- .07% Cost $3.00 when I last got them. Am not overly crazy about them though because their performance tends to vary (as do quite a few Radio Shack parts) 8^) But I just noticed that the one 7205 chip I still have has Toshiba markings and is in it's radio shack package. oh well, good luck..... The TA7205P crosses to an NTE1155, which is listed as a 5.8 watt audio power amp for car radios. Front view, from left to right, pins are 1 - vcc 2 - bypass 3 - bypass 4 - bypass 5 - bypass 6 - input 7 - rc network 8 - feedback 9 - ground 10- output there's a notch at the pin-1 end. There isn't any more info than that in the replacement guide. The Mouser catalog (800-34-MOUSEr) lists the part at about $11, which is less than their minimum order of $20. Hope that helps. - Brian
