[sci.electronics] Audio System Design Idea

My brother is buying a new house soon, and while it is still
being constructed, he is planning to set up an audio system
in the house which will work for music and speech from radio,
TV, stereo tape players and intercom.

The crude specs for this proposed system are the following:

*	The house has two floors and about 6-8 rooms will need
	the centralized output feature.
*	The tape player or radio may be attached to any of the
above mentioned rooms through a simple socket specially
	for this purpose.
*	Due to so many speakers there needs to be only one amplifier
at any one location that can handle this task.
*	All the speaker locations should have the availability
of putting the sound system on/off wherever it(player)
might be located(off only at the local room).

The problem here is how to design a circuit that would not allow
more than one location to put the player(+amplifier) system on so
as not to damage the amplifier or/and the system, specially since this
system involves more than two or three locations.

Anybody out there who has any ideas about designing such a system
or modifying its features for a better system, please respond.
