[sci.electronics] TTL I/O from a Mac+

pmeyer@ecocd7.intel.com (Paul Meyer) (07/31/90)

I am looking at building an IR Remote, the plans for which came
through sci.electronics a couple of months ago. To make the thing
computer controlled, I need to be able to do some TTL I/O from my Mac.
In the documentation for the remote, all the examples are for PC/AT type
parallel printer ports. I'm trying to figure out if I can rig something
up to connect it to my mac.

I have a Vanilla MacPlus. I need a simple TTL output and input.
I'm willing to jury rig almost anything, although I'd rather not have to
break open the mac to do it. If I can just get some kind of TTL I/O
from the serial port that would be great. The other question is what
kind of software interface will I need to sample and to output the
signals? Ideally I would like to be able to run the thing in Hypercard,
but I also have Lightspeed Pascal if Hypercard can't hack it. How can I
toggle the serial port pins directly, and how can I poll the pins?

Any suggestions of solutions or places to look for solutions
will be appreciated. E-mail all ideas to me, and I'll post a summary to
the net if there is enough interest.
