A colleague needs info on available compasses or gyros that can be interfaced to a 0-5VDC ADC for use in a miniature submersible. "Cheap, hack-your-own" are the keywords. The November '89 issue of Radio Electronics showed how to tap off 2 voltages from the Radio Shack Electronic Car Compass to provide heading information for a computer. This compass costs $50. For about $300 you can get a gimbaled, dampened Flux Gate with RS232 out (ala NMEA standard) from a marine supply house such as West Marine.
