I'm planning on doing some modifications to a low-end CD player (Teac PD-165) for research purposes. I'd like to add serial digital output to the unit. It looks like the decoding/error correcting/etc. chip - a Yamaha YM3805 has a straight serial out. However, the Teac service manual gives only a block diagram of the device and not all pin numbers are listed on the schematic. Specifically, I'm interested in the output format of the SDO (Serial Data Out ???) pin - it's the input to the digital filter so it should have the data I'm after. Also, I'm interested in the output data format on the QOUT pin. I know its 4X oversampled and it appears that the data format is 24 bits per channel plus a sync bit. I'd also like some information on the timing of the SAMP1 and SAMP2 pins. If anyone knows where (or if) I can get a data sheet on this chip or can answer any of the above questions - I will be most grateful. Thanks, Todd. (atschnei@vlsi.waterloo.edu)
