You're thinking of the tome by Robert Iannini ["Mr. Voltage Doubler"], in which almost all the projects use the same chopper circuit with the SAME GODDAMN KLUDGE-OID HAND-WOUND transformer. The book also doubles as advertising for Information Unlimited, who sells kits for the various projects [including the aforementioned transformer]... _H*
