[sci.electronics] THROUGH THE GLASS CB ANTENNA ???

AT05@Lehigh (08/24/90)

Can anyone give me the name, phone, etc. of manufacturers, supliers of
through the glass type CB antennas, for automotive application. There
used to be several available, with marginally decent range, but they
don't appear to be availble? Any suggestions?

Another alternative if you don't want to drill a hole is I have seen
in various 'add on junk to cars' catalogs, a duplexer or matching box
that allows you to use your AM/FM Broadcast antenna on CB (27Mhz)
Don't know how it works (or doesn't) but I recall it being about 10 or 15
bucks...

I tried sending mail, but it bounced.

Antenna Specialists (AS) sells a glass mounted center-loaded CB antenna.
It's about 50 inches long and sells for about $60.

Sorry, the direct E-mail bounced...here is text of what was sent in
reply to the posting:

The Antenna Specialists Co. manufactures M-906 that looks like a
cellular antenna (pig tail coil). While these look cute, remember that
any shortening from a standard 1/4 wave mobile will reduce the radiation
resistance of the antenna and of course the radiated power drops
dramatically due to the drop in efficiency. This means output power
is MUCH lower than with a longer antenna. Talk distance is less.
