HI I have a 25inch Quasar color TV that needs fixing, the problem is that it has an Horizontal line on the screen. The audio is fine, I was wondering if anyone had this problem before or someone that knows how to fix TV could give me an idea what to look for. I'm not a good TV repair person, I used to repair music amplifiers and PC's and receivers. I was wondering if someone could shed some light I would be most greatful. Please email me @oliveira.nic.near.net. P.S. Can I get schematics from the manufacture? thanks john

I'm not a good TV repair person, If you mean that is has ONLY a horizontal line on the screen - no picture other than the line - then you've lost vertical deflection. Some things to look for (somewhat in order of ease of diagnosis/repair): 1. Disconnected vertical deflection coils (if the yoke has separate h. and v. connections). 2. Bad vertical output transistor or tube, or associated component in the vertical output circuit. 3. Bad transistor/tube/associated component in v. drive stage (the stage just before the v. output. 4. Open or shorted vertical deflection coil in yoke. (This may be difficult to repair in that a complete readjustment of the CRT/yoke assembly will be needed if the yoke must be replaced.) You might be able to get a schematic from the manufacturer; another good possibility is to check the local electronics supply shops (or even the public library) for troubleshooting guides/schematics such as the Howard Sams "Photofacts" series.
