pardon my complete ignorance, but would it be ridiculous to ask where an engineering undergraduate could obtain laser equipment (or plans and parts) for personal experimentation in optics and communications? please don't tell me to go to my local physics lab. if i thought they'd let me borrow their equipment i wouldn't have asked. they're too smart for that :) sources, restrictions, caveats, and pricing-type info appreciated. anthony m. petro "beethoven" i can say what i want; i'm just an undergrad oistony@UBVMSD.BITNET "frame by frame, oistony@mednet.bitnet death by drowning, petro@sun.acsu.buffalo.edu in your own in your own... analysis..."

You might also try Meredith Intruments, in Glendale, AR. I don't have the address with me, but they're in information. They sell surplus and used lasers and laser supplies. Fairly cheap, and they offer net 30 terms to educational buyers, if you you can order it through your school somehow. (net 30 means they'll send it out to you right away, and you can pay for it when you get it, within 30 days.) ??pat I am in no way, shape or form affiliated with Meredith Instruments, except being a satisfied customer, with several of their products now decorating my living room.....

I too have bought stuff from meredith in the past-- excellent "warehouse" for laser surplus (complete lasers, tubes, power supplies, optics, odd leftovers like supermarket scanners, etc.) Their best deals are when you buy the tube and power supply separately. I ended up with a complete 1.5-2mw HeNe laser for a mere $150 total. Not too bad. (this was about 5 years ago, too) They have all sorts of stuff. I also have addresses of other laser suppliers at home. I'll post them when I remember to bring the list to work. ------ Kent C.
