[sci.electronics] E-Z instructional books

michelle@sco.COM (From (or Sender) name not authenticated.) (10/11/90)

please pardon my breaking into the *real* discussions <|-)
to ask for some much-needed advice.

i'm just starting out in studying electronics, and am
having some real trouble with the textbook our class
is using, Grob's Basic Electronics.

does anyone have suggestions for more comprehensive/accessible
beginning texts or other instructional materials that might
complement my studies? is the tandy/TI series helpful
and/or credible? the more populist the better... :^]

thanks for any and all leads!

Don't laugh-- try the GPO.

The military has to teach electronics to some real no-brainers, and they
have to use instructors who are often only a day or two ahead of their
class. (This is just the way it goes... Of course many of the students are
very intelligent, and many instructors are quite good)

What this means is that the textbooks and other training materials used are
very easy to learn from. And many of these materials are available through
the GPO. I don't know what the costs are, but you can contact them. In
Chicago, the GPO bookstore's phone number is (312) 353-5133. Some other
major cities have local GPO bookstores, or you can also order direct from
DC. (No, I don't know that number...)
