[sci.electronics] TOSLINK digital audio standard

pavelr@sco.COM (Pavel Rozalski) (10/16/90)

I am interested in the TOSLINK digital audio standard. I have access to
a Sony tuner/amp with a digital input. Where can I find cables? How do
I make something that can talk to this? Specifically, I want use this as
a D/A converter with a computer (Amiga, probably with an extra CPU just
to drive this).

Any info would be appreciated.

from Toshiba:
cable TOCP172
transmitter	TOTX172
receiver	TORX172
other companies do these too, eg Mitsubishi, but I have no part numbers.

The standard is described in ref:
"Fibre optic link for digital audio interface", IEEE Trans Cons. Elect._34_(3)
August 1988.

Sony and Philips make decoding chips.

Cheers,
Steve.
