[sci.electronics] Parts Question-RCA VCR

'Any TV/VCR repair people out there??

'Got a parts question....

I'm repairing an RCA VT385 VCR. The DC-DC converter is out (design error,
it overheats and dies, new one has heat sink).

I have a Sams Photofact schematic on it. The replacement converter states
to always replace Q808 with the converter. Q808 is described as a
"IC Protection" device on the schematic. No RCA part number is given
in the Sams. The number "ICP-5N" is shown on the schematic.

I looked in a TV parts catalog I have (EPS parts supply) and they have
a similar device (looks like a small signal transistor w/two leads, not 3)
in the catalog listed as "IPC-5N" (not ICP-5N). I think this is the same
part but I'm looking for verification on the net.

What is this part? Is it just a diode that fries if overloaded? The part is
in series with a raw, 21 VDC source, has an inductor in series with its
output, connecting to the DC input of the converter.

'Any answers out there?

Thanks,
Barry
