I need to build a device similar to a remote garage door opener. I want a small portable rf transmitter that sends a coded transmission to a receiver which verifies the proper code and then turns on a relay. I thought I would use the same chip set as the Stanley garage door opener but have found out they are custom chips made only for anley. Does anybody know of some other devices which I couldld use. Thanks in advance.

Motorola (and others) make various chips intended for use in IR remote controls which could probably be used over RF instead. You'd need to add a 4-bit controller or something like that to read the codes... Also, I've seen ads (in ECN, I think) for someone selling keychain transmitter systems like the ones used for car alarms. They're targeting OEMs, not end users, price for XMTR/RCVR pair was around $80. ----------------------------------------------------- Gordon S.
