I have several projects related to astronomy (creating an "astrophotographer's helper") that require a bit of microprocessing, and would like to receive any email opinions about what processors they are using and have found fun. The requirements for the project are: o Low power consumption o a keypad interface + LCD alphanumeric display... o at least one serial port for communication with a PC o Ease of design/programming o Low cost, both for development and manufacture o Some A-D converters could probably find a use in the system later I have been looking at the 8051 family and have a pretty good understanding of that chip. Some people here seem to recommend the 68HC11, and as I am probably historically more leaning toward the Motorola families than Intel, I was wondering if someone could comment more. If you have experience with low cost development systems (or could describe how you go about designing with whatever chip you use) we would also be grateful. If someone has any information about how to obtain databooks and application notes from Motorola, I would also be grateful. Thanks much in advance....
