[sci.electronics] infra-red remote controls and video programming

vic@grep.co.uk (Victor Gavin) (11/13/90)

Hi,

Does anyone know of a ``smart'' remote that'll set a video to record a TV
programme at a given time.

The reason for this is that I'm never sure whether I'll be at home in the
evening when there is some TV programme that I'd like to watch, so I'd like
to have every TV programme I'd like to watch encoded in the video.
The problem is that the video manufacturers only (at max.) allow you to pre-set
eight TV programmes.

My solution is for a magic doohickey that has a timer in it that will schedule
oodles of TV programmes and send the <CHANNEL#><RECORD> sequence to the video
at the proper time.

My next problem is that I don't know how to build the hardware, so does anyone
have any experience/circuits for video infra-red generation (and reception so
that it can ``learn'' the sequence to send).

		Hopefully,
