I was talking to my neighbor the other night, and he had just had gas logs
installed. I've been thinking about getting a set myself. The one think we
hit on that is missing, though, is the *SNPA*CRACKLE*POP* of a real fire with
real logs. Anybody have any good ideas of how to build a sound generator that
could produce such sounds?
Bear in mind that to be realistic, the sound must be random, and volume should
also change randomly (I really like the occasional load *POPS* that you get
when you burn wood that is slightly wet, or partially green!). Going further,
can this be done with a simple speaker? I'd like to mount something behind the
metal grid of the fireplace. This is not IN the fireplace, but in the air
cavity that surrounds it (it's a metal insert). Will an ordinary (or
non-ordinary) speaker hold up to a fair amount of heat?
