Hello netland,

First off, sorry if this is a FAQ, but we've just improved our feed, and
this is the first time I've been able to post here with any hope of it
reaching you.

I'm looking to build a "very good" pre- and power amp combination, and I'm
looking for sources of high-quality components _in_the_UK_. That's right,
I'm in the UK, so any components have to be sold here, or at least "easily
orderable" from here. I assume the most critical ones are PSU smoothing
caps. and the transformer, right?

Also, anyone have any advice about layout and power supplies etc? I'm
planning to use star earthing wherever possible. I also plan on using
a double secondary transformer (toroidal, if I can find one), so that
each power channel uses a separate 2ndary winding (and separate
rectification and smoothing, of course). I'll probably build a passive
pre-amp with a battery-driven phono stage (no, I'd rather not get into
valves/tubes, thanks!).

Please respond by mail - I promise faithfully to summarise to the net...

Thanks in advance,

richi.
