[sci.electronics] Help finding microcontroller chips

ditz@ECN.PURDUE.EDU (Michael R Ditz) (11/18/90)

I plan to begin a microcontroller project this Christmas, but have a little
problem. I want to use one of the Motorola chips, but I can't find where
to buy them! None of the mail-order catalogs I have carry many chips.
I would like to use the 68HC11 or one of the 68705's. Could someone PLEASE
tell me the names and phone numbers (or addresses) of mail order companies
that carry these?

Thanx in advance!!!

Try ARROW Catalog Division - This is a retail division of a major
wholesale distributor. Their number is 1-800-93ARROW. I believe they
will take credit cards (I have a wholesale account there).

Jameco Electronics (415-592-8097) catalogs two versions of the 68705,
one with 1804 and one with 3776 bytes of user EPROM at $15.95 and $17.95
respectively. This is a fairly ancient device (power hungry NMOS) but still
quite useful. I have always got excellent service from Jameco.

Newark Electronics (312-784-5100, ext. 3107, to find the local branch
nearest you) also catalogs various versions of the 68705. They will send you
two inch thick catalogs from now on, once you are on their mailing list. I
have yet to order anything from them, because they are rather pricey. They
also catalog two CMOS parts (1468705) at $29.31 and $41.10. Finally, Newark
catalogs two versions of the 68HC11 at $28.66 and $30.50.

Another possibility is to order a complete evaluation kit for the 68HC11
direct from Motorola, at $68.11. This includes a board, software, manuals, etc.
and really is a fantastic deal. The kit is S68HC11EVB. I originally ordered
via a phone number on a poster announcing a design contest. I don't have the
number now, but the address on the packing list is:

     Motorola Semiconductor Products, Inc.
     3501 Ed Bluestein Blvd.
     Austin, Texas 78721
