[sci.electronics] CRYSTAL OSCILLATORS

blw@acsu.buffalo.edu (brian l wybaillie) (11/18/90)

hello,
i am in the process of building a digital capacitance meter for a
school design project and am looking for a crystal which will produce 40 MHz.
i have checked the ECG catalog but the highest they go is 22 MHz. can anyone
point me in the direction of such a beast.
also, i was told that the "Pierce Oscillator" circuit was a popular
configuration to use as a clock, but i am not sure if this will be adequate
for this application. does anyone know if this is true and if so what other
configurations exist which will produce a cleaner output clock? (CMOS,74HCTXX)
if anyone can help me out with this, i'd appreciate if you could
respond by e-mail and i'll summarize.

	thanks in advance,

	brian wybaillie

Hmmm,
I think you can still go to Radio shack and order crystals of any
Megahertz from them. They are supposed to be used in those ancient
police scanners that use crystals. I bought 2 crystals of 472 megahertz
range... they should have the 40 meg you need. Call em and see.
Have fun,
