[sci.electronics] battery charging

Well, I just picked up a battery that I want to use to run a light I 
built for my bike.  It's a lead/acid (maintenace free),
12 volt 3 amp hour battery.a

1.  How 'bout some suggestions on charging it.       
    -- I have an extra PC power supply that puts out 12v DC.  
       Can/should I use this?
    -- I can cobble together a 14v transformer (from Radio S.....)
       along with a rectifer & a couple of resisters.....
       Is this any better or worse?

2.  What's the best way of telling when the battery has a full charge?
