[sci.electronics] ST-412 Help!

phupp@warwick.ac.uk (S Millington) (11/29/90)

I just got, free, an old WP with a hard drive inside of it. The drive is
labelled:

      Seagate ST-412

It looks like it is a 5.25" size. Does anyone have any info on this drive,
capacity, heads, type - MFM/RLL/etc. The only close match I can find on
sale is a 1.2GB ST-41200N : this is an _old_ WP, not the same drive methinks!
I am trying to interface this to a PC. Thanks in advance.

Well, WPs are pretty old in general, but one with a ST-412 puts you in
the dark ages. :)

Well, feel free to try to get it to format to 1.2GB but don't expect it. :)
So, the answer is: close, but no ceegar! :) The ST-412 is a very old
HD, so old in fact that I wouldn't recommend putting it to any real
use. I believe that it is a 5MB drive, but I could be wrong and it could
be a whopping big 10 megger. :)

No problem, it is just like any other seagate, except it is lots smaller.
It is MFM, 5 or 10 MB, 4 heads (I think).
