[sci.electronics] Using a music system at 220V/50Hz -- need suggestions

This questions might have been raised before. Since, I'm not a
regular reader of this news-group, sorry for waisting the net-bandwidth.

I have a music system (amplifier, cd player and tape deck) which
operates in 110V, 60Hz. I would like to take these to my home
country. Where the standard line voltage is 220V, 50Hz.

Can we simply use a 220-110 step down transformer of required
volt-amp and operate the music system?

If so,
    1) Does the frequency difference affect the performance?
    2) What are precautions to be taken for this approach?

Is there a better alternative solution to this problem?
Please e-mail the reply.
