[sci.electronics] Why no snow on EGA/VGA?

scott@blueeyes.kines.uiuc.edu (scott) (01/04/91)

As many of us probably know, the IBM Color Graphics Adapter exhibits "snow" on
the screen when the CPU and the video refresh circuitry both access the video
memory at the same time. The MDA, EGA, VGA, etc. don't have this problem.

Why not? What's the specific difference which prevents snow on better display
cards? Please email replies - I wouldn't want to bore the net (any more than
this question already has ;-)

Thanks!
