[sci.electronics] Tristate Computer : Summary

jon_sree@world.std.com (Jon Sreekanth) (01/14/91)

A week ago, I posted a question on mail order experiences with Tristate
Computer in NY. I'm summarizing email responses, without identification.
Comments within >>> <<< are my own summary. Tristate is at 800-433-5199

From UCSD :

About Tri-state computer... I have no experience with them. But I
suggest you post your query in a photography group also. Tri-state
also sells photo stuff mailorder, and many of the mailorder firms
for photo equipment based in NY are very shady.

From Oregon,

I've had a LOT of experience with Tri-Star -- generally all good. They sell good
equipment and support it well. My last company bought six 386sx systems and two
25Mhz 386 cached systems from them; I personally bought a 25Mhz 386 uncached system
from them at the same time (about a year ago).

>>> Also adds that not all systems have the same brand names of parts in them,
but they're all reputable brand names <<<

From San Francisco,

Their customer service and part return are quite poor.
>>> They wrongly shipped a memory card and it took 3 months and 20 phone calls
to get charge account credited <<<

Unless they have changed or you can pick things up personally, I would not reco-
mend them. If you do use them - charge it. You have 30 days after you purchase
it (with some credit card companies) to have them handle not getting credited.
I trusted their word and waited too long.

From R.R,

Yes, I've dealt with them many times, once in person and a few times
mail order. Very good prices, quite satisfied. Ask for Matt.

From D.S.

I have purchased about 10 printers from them. There prices on printers
are very low and thats about all they have going for them.

>>> He once ordered printers, and they did not ship on time, so he
cancelled the order, but the printers showed up anyway, and he
had to pay for shipping both ways, and it took 3 phone calls
before they credited his visa account <<<

There service and management sticks but there prices
are good.

>>> end of summaries <<<

Thanks,
