[sci.electronics] Characteristic impedance etc. for flex cables ???

mehra@agni.pa.dec.com (Vivek Mehra) (01/17/91)

I need to compute the characteristic impedance, capacitance/inch and
inductance/inch for a 'flex cable' (for connecting disks etc in a computer,
cross section shown below). Are there any empirical formulae that I can use,
like the ones used for calculating the parameters for microstrip and stripline
printed circuit boards?? Any technical reference would be helpful.

The dielectric of the coating, space between wires etc are known.

Cross section of a 'flex cable':

		---------------------
       	       | G  s  G  s  G  s  G |
		---------------------

			G = Ground wire
			s = Signal wire

Thanks
