Greetings. My favorite VCR just bit the dust. I traced it down to the drum. I play a lot of tapes (and, I admit, I buy the cheapest) and have to clean the heads on a regular basis (every 2nd Sat of the month) if I want the video quality to be "decent". I think that the head cleaner did a too good job because one of the heads chipped. There is a tiny part of one of the four that's missing. Also, some of the tiny copper coil-wire, that got loose and came with contact with the cleaning tape, is broken... I have a feeling that these things are not repairable, like a Mac motherboard :-). By the way, the local VCR repair guy was looking at me kind of strange when I asked, "Where can I get a replacement for this" and gave him the drum assembly :-) He wouldn't tell me where to get one but said that replacing it would cost $150 (parts, labor) and that he couldn't give me any warranty because I voided it in a _big_ way.... (Actually, the warranty expired 4 years before...) So, anyone know where can I get a drum for a: Fisher FVH - 830, it's a 4-head, HiFi Dolby deal. The drum says: CMK-81X (42264-009600) and, what I believe is a date code, 412182 (ink-printed on top surface) It does look like the tiny head assemblies are held in place with allen screws (and are theoreticly removable) but I don't think I can get a new one... Also, the head assembly has the servo-motor bolted to it. Should I presume that the new replacement will have one or will I only get a drum? (I can remove it, but I wanted to ask so I don't waste time) Please... I can't live without a VCR! Take care. P.S. Please e-mail. I will archive and sent to anyone with a similar problem. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If reply bounces, try "kwgst@pittvms"... no? try "fmgst@unix.cis.pitt.edu" Did you hear?
