[sci.electronics] Cross talk between phone lines in two line installation

jconger@magnus.ircc.ohio-state.edu (James A. Conger II) (01/28/91)

We have two phone lines for our house. Most of the phones are two
line, but there are a couple of phones hooked up to only the first
line. We get tremendous cross talk between the two lines. Any
conversation on either line can be clearly heard on the other. The
wiring is all new and 4 wire.

It is not any of the phones. Even with a single one line phone hooked
to each line, the cross talk still exists. If one of the test phones
is plugged directly into the phone companies network interface instead
of through the wiring in the house, the problem dissappears.
Obviously, the problem lies in the wiring but there are no shorts.

Any suggestions? Please e-mail. I'll summarize if the responses
warrent it.
