[sci.electronics] Summary of resonses to phone line crosstalk problem

jconger@magnus.ircc.ohio-state.edu (James A. Conger II) (02/01/91)

Well, here's the summary of the problem of the cross talk between lines:

The problem is the wiring. Seems that "straight" 4 conductor wire isn't good
enough. You _must_ use cable that is made of sets of "twisted pairs". A
twisted pair rejects the signals on adjacent twisted pairs much better than
a striaght pair.

Obviously, the modular extension cords are not good either. We have about
100 ft. of them. Guess they will need to go to if the problem persists.

Be sure to do it right and wire all new homes with twisted pair wire--you
never know when you'll need it!
