Optrex has announced some beautiful black-and-white LCD display panels. Photos show an appearance similar to black ink on white paper. Unfortunately, the product isn't shipping, although they offered to bring the prototype into town so I could see it. So I'd like to know if any other LCD manufacturer has that kind of contrast. To get a LARGE number of pixels, most LCD displays have to be multiplexed, though. The only large-panel systems which are not multiplexed are so-called 'active matrix' systems. Check out the Macintosh Portable if you want to see a good active matrix display. Pricey, but top-notch visual quality. John Whitmore
