I'm looking for data on short-term file reference patterns, either on a single machine or (preferably) in a distributed environment. Some background: I'm interested migration strategies for a replicated, distributed file system on a local area network. Existing migration work that I have seen uses long-term (days) file reference patterns for a single site to decide when to archive. When you start moving files around on machines on a LAN, however, shorter term (minutes or hours) information becomes useful. I intend to eventually collect some data myself, but any study that I do will undoubtedly benefit from a varied collection of data. Any pointers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. rick floyd uucp: (seismo | allegra)!rochester!rick arpa: rick@rochester
