[sci.electronics] Summary: RS-xxx standards

hucaby@mri.uky.edu (David Hucaby) (03/14/91)

Thanks to all who replied to my posting about RS standards.
Here is some followup information:

Standards are available from:
	Electronic Industries Association (EIA)
	1722 Eye Street N.W.
	Washington, D.C. 20006
	(202) 457-4900

According to them, the name 'RS' was dropped in 1986, since it stood
for 'Recommended Standard' and they were doing more than recommending
them. They are now called EIA-xxx instead.

The monochrome video signal standard is called EIA-170, costs $11.00,
and was last updated in the 50's. There was a man at the EIA who had
planned to do further work on the old RS-170A standard, but he retired. (?!)

Their color video standard is called IETNTS1, is $11.00, and appears to
be available for future color TV usage.
