seems slightly strange to me that typing in the lyrics of a song that has a nice style or message or whatever would be illegal. It's a lot like not passing around non-official photographs of a landmark since your home photographs take some of the revenues of the photographers (which goes partially to the landmark) away from them. I mean, realistically, I would like to see net.music.lyrics because I think that there are a suprising number of lyrics that can stand on their own as poetry or 'stories' and I would not be exposed to them if not in a group like this (I would never buy, let alone read, the liner to a Zepplin album, yet some of the lyrics are pretty amazingly good!) On the other hand, no-one ever said that the American legal system made any sense, anyway! -- Dave

I cannot agree that posting the lyrics is unethical. Often, the person HAS the album, but can't understand the words; or, is thinking of buying it, but it curious as to what the words are. I've often bought records on the basis of fantastic lyrics. I certainly don't think we'll be discouraging record-buying! I don't know if it's legal; but i'll continue to provide lyrics to anyone who wants them on a one-on-one basis, at least. Arwen
