have you ever seen a source for big (~1kx1k) LCD displays? if so, how much did they cost? I noticed in the media that Sony's new MIPS portable is something like 1kx700, which is certainly superior to the run of the mill vga. thanks, mark

Apparently this is an NEC Japanese PC standard, and these devices have been manufactured mainly for the Japanese home market. The next lowest size down of display on the NEC Japanese PC was 640x400, hence the proliferation of 640x400 LCD panels. Sanyo sell an 1120x780 panel. These devices are driven as 'dual panels' and have sixteen bit rather than 8 bit interfaces. (ie they have 8 bits for the upper panel, and eight bits for the lower panel). I don't know the price though. Hitachi have just brought out a 1024x768. (Or are about to, I have a data sheet marked 'tentative'). This uses a similar 16 bit interface to the Sanyo. I got a guestimate on the price from Hitachi of 150 to 200 pounds (in large quantities). The part number of the Sanyo device is LCM-5461-24NAK. The part number of the Hitachi device is LMG9020ZZFC. Hope this helps, and I hope I haven't said anything I shouldn't. ___________________________________________________________________ Ashley Stevens astevens@acorn.co.uk Acorn Computers, 645 Newmarket Rd, Cambridge, UK.
