[sci.electronics] NE602 vs NE612

dadams@cherry10.cray.com (David Adams) (04/05/91)

Can anyone summarize the differences between the NE602 and the NE612
Double-Bananced Mixer and Oscillator chips from Signetics.

I have the "Linear Data Manual Volume I communications" from Signetics.

The documentation on these two chips seems almost identical.
The specs are all identical (Wherever they give comparable specs for
both chips.)

If I have a design that calls for the NE602, can I substitute the NE612?
(say in a simple direct conversion receiver.)

Thanks for helping to clear up the confusion.

A note from a Signetics engineer in Technical Correspondence or Hints & Kinks
in QST within the past year or two mentioned in passing that the NE612
was a lower-performance version of the NE602. If you look carefully at the data
sheets, you'll notice that the NE612 has lower gain (figure 11 on both sheets),
by about 4 dB.

Keep a look-out for the NE602A, which has an improved intercept point.
