[sci.electronics] Control Protocol for a Pioneer LD-V1000 Laserdisc player?

Does anyone know the control protocol for a Pioneer LD-V1000 Laserdisc player?

I bought one for $60 at Halted. They were selling it as a 2mW laser. The
player was apparently removed from a videogame. It is relatively old (1983).

It has no front panel, but the back has a 24 pin centronics type female
connector.

Reverse engineering, I have come up with the following:

pin 1 Data 1 via an LS373 and an LS540 to the CPU data bus
pin 2 Data 2 "
pin 3 Data 3 "
pin 4 Data 4 "
pin 13 Data 5 "
pin 14 Data 6 "
pin 15 Data 7 "
pin 16 Data 8 "
pin 7 Output thru a buffer from an 8255
pin 11 Output thru a buffer from an 8255
pin 17 Input to a 4001 nand gate
pin 12,18-24	Ground
pin 5,6,8-10	No connection

The control board is Z80 based. It has a Z80A, a 6116, a 2764, a Z80A-CTC,
and two 8255A's.

To take the unit apart was a little difficult. Remember there is a 2mW HeNe
laser pointed straight up, and a High Voltage power supply for it, so don't
do it if you don't know what you are doing.

1. Remove the cover. It has a latch that can only be operated when the power
is on. The six hinge screws connect it to the inner frame.

2. Remove the bottom. This is attached with seven screws to the frame. Note
that the fan blade protrudes from the frame, so you can't rest the unit
    upright again.

3. Three screws along the right side of the top of the case must be removed.
    A long screwdriver is necessary.

4. Put the bottom back on. Some the the removed screws are hard to replace
because the metal supports have a tendency to move.

5. Turn the player upright.

6. Remove the three hex screws holding the ring around the spindle.

7. Remove the remaining nine screw holding the top of the case on, including
two hidden under the spindle ring. Note that two screws are shorter so
as not to interfere with the laser mechanism.

The control circuitry is to the right, completely shielded. On my player,
it looks like someone did a rom upgrade by cutting thru the case instead of
going thru all the above trouble.

Halted should have [sold/given] you a multipage spec sheet that lists the
necessary interface and also all of the bitmapped player control codes.
I've got one at home and have been able to control it ok. Let me know if
you need some of the commands and other info (but try calling Halted first
and ask them for the spec sheet).
