I have just picked up my CD player from the repair shop, and the repairman said the motor was bad. His exact words were that "the motor's magnetic field had collapsed" and he said that this can come from low use of the machine, and that when the motor is running, the magnets inside of it get "re-charged". This sounds rather odd to me. Is this really true? Do the permanent magnets inside a small motor get stronger as the motor is run, and, can they de-magnetize spontaneously over a period of 2 years? I'd appreciate any replies and explanations, to mlevin@jade.tufts.edu. Mike Levin
