[sci.electronics] Alpha Inducer

rjmical@ntg.com (R.J. Mical) (05/08/91)

I need some help. Recently I encountered a device, I believe it was called
the MC-2 (as in MC-Squared), which employed audio/visual rhythms via
hearphones/goggles to induce alpha states in the brain. I can't find who
makes this thing. Can anyone give me a reference to this or a similar
product? I would be much of the appreciative coloration.

I saw this thing at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) last year. I tried
it and it seemed to relax you if you let it. Similar along the lines of
self-hypnosis in theory. I picked up a flyer and the following information
is copied from the dated version of Jan 1990. Suggested retail is $350.

The 10 Presets
The objective of the Presets is to allow you to choose different time
options to accomplish a certain purpose. Each preset begins at Beta, the
active mental state, to a very relaxed Theta state and then returns to the
Beta state.

The MC2-Dreamachine is a computerized unit that establishes patterns using
audio/visual stimuli.

Based on what I heard at the recent CSICOP conference, the device you
describe may act as an *epileptic seizure*-inducer as well! BEWARE!
