[sci.electronics] Computer monitors and their power consumption

stealth@engin.umich.edu (Mike Pelletier) (05/10/91)

After looking through a number of sources, I've been unable to locate
a figure for the wattage of our computer monitors, particularly those
for the Sun, DEC, and IBMs, which I believe are Sony. Does anyone have
a rough ballpark figure for the wattage of a typical 19" color or BW
monitor?

Thanks!

Typical consumption for a 19" high-res color monitor is around 100 - 150W;
the specified maximums are usually around 250W, but I've never even seen one
approach that in the "typical" case.

Monochrome displays tend to be somewhat less - maybe 90 - 120W - due primarily
to the lower anode voltages and the resulting reduction in deflection power.
