[sci.electronics] Transformers

Hello all,

I have a question about connecting transformers together. If anyone can
help please respond directly to me at: asplund@aludra.usc.edu.

I need a 16VDC power source (does not need to be regulated) that will
provide 4.0 Amps. I have four 16VAC 1.8 Amp transformers. My question is
if I were to connect them together to allow me to draw 4 Amps would
it be better to connect them up before or after rectification to DC.

Is it even possible to connect the two outputs up, then rectify them?
Or is it only possible to rectify each one separately then connect
the outputs in parallel?

What would be the reasons for connecting them up one way over the other?
Or should I not even attempt this?

P.S. I am aware of the power factor with the rectification for bridge
rectifiers (1.8 times) that is the reason for connecting all four of these
up together.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
