In the last few months, when I turn my AKAI AA-V201 receiver on (after it has been off for more than a couple of days) it powers up in an irratic condition (wierd display, the controls being unresponsive). Hitting the reset button makes everything ok, but I have to reprogram the thing all over again. The unit is 5 or 6 years old. I suspected some sort of dead ni-cad battery, but upon inspection, found a 0.047 F capacitor (rated at 5.5V) near a large 40 pin chip. (47000 uf?) It's about 1.5 cm in diam. and 1.5 cm tall. Is this cap likely to be leaky? If I measure, say, 5 V across the cap (when its turned on), can I replace it with a 5V nicad? (can a large cap and a rechargable battery be treated the same electrically?) On a slightly different topic, this receiver has MW and LW band indicators on the display (but, of course, they never come on). Scatterd on a few pc-boards are dotted areas with missing components. Would it be possible to add these parts to get the extra bands?
