I'm a enthusiast of homebrewing computer at begginer level living in Japan and now planning for visiting Los Angels from 6/28 to 7/1. What I want to do there is to see the Electronics junk market place at LA and to talk with some hardware enthusiast. But I don't know where is such a market. Since many famous persons and Chip makers presented in such a book like Steven Levi's 'Hackers' worked at California, I'm looking forward to find somewhat interesting thing there. I'm now interested in high speed numerical calculation on a home- brew computer. The use of RISC or other fast chip will make it possible but there are some problems. 1. High speed RISC chips are hard to get at in civil junk market at least inside Japan. Personal use of RISC chip is considerably suppressed. 2. Amateur hardware enthusiasts can't make 4 layer PCB. That is fatal to handle the high frequency circuit of RISC. To strive with such a noise with the techniques of amateurs, pretty amounts of shield and efforts should be required I think. I have also some interests in Radio Packet Network. In a word I want to have some connection with someone enthusiastic about electronics in LA. If there are any one who have such a kindness, please e-mail to me with your phone number because I can't access USENET in LA. I'm studying Quantum chemistry in Kyoto Univ. and wrote a related asking on Sci.chem. If you have some experience with Quantum chem. and live near by LA, please see that article too. thank you. -- Koichiro Yamaguchi USENET:f54762@kuduts.kudpc.kyoto-u.ac.jp Department of hydrocarbon chemistry, Faculty of engineering , Kyoto Univ. 606 Japan home phone :075(751)9460

If you have the time or the transportation, drive up to the Bay Area
and visit silicon valley; Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, etc...
might have more of what you're looking for than LA.
