[sci.electronics] Using non-rechargeables as rechargeables

rhenders@ee.egr.duke.edu (Ronald H. Henderson) (06/20/91)

I have a bicycle trip computer with solar cells.
There is battery backup for when it is dark.
The manual calls for AgO rechargeable cells so the solar cells can
recharge them when in direct sunlight.

Q.: Will my non-rechargeable AgO batteries explode or leak when
     the solar cells kick in?

Q.: Will the solar cells extend the battery life of my regular AgO's?

P.S. I can't find rechargeable AgO's of the correct size.

If this is a CatsEye Solar you can find batteries blessed by the manufacturer
at a good bike shop (and pay too much).
